Ryan Badman is in his fourth year volunteering with International Young Scholars. This organization, supported by Syracuse’s Office of Engagement, provides teenage refugee and immigrant youth with mentors from Syracuse University.
Ryan described the progress he’s made with his student:
“I have been working with a student Ismail since my freshman year. He will graduate high school when I graduate college. His progress in math and English over the past three years has been outstanding and inspiring and I am very happy I was able to aid him in getting acclimated to the US culture and succeeding in school. He is a wonderful friend and I am looking forward to helping him with SAT studying and getting into college this year. This experience has really taught me how worthwhile and meaningful it can be to spend even a few hours a week outside of one’s normal routine to make a disadvantaged student’s life better.”
