Nourish International at SU

Nourish 3Are you interested in sustainable international development? What about travel abroad?  Do you have a passion for social entrepreneurship?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, Nourish International is the place for you.  Nourish is a national organization run on college campuses across the country.  This is Nourish’s first year at SU and they are looking for interested, hardworking, socially conscious members who want to join!

Activities have included sustainable development projects funded and implemented by Nourish members each summer in communities abroad such as teaching computer literacy in Uganda and installing latrines in Peru.

Please contact Ellen Moore, Chapter Founder and President if you’re interested in becoming a part of Nourish at SU!

Watch for a general interest meeting in early September.  You can also look for their table at the Involvement Fair on the quad on September 11th from 11:30-3!

The applications for Syracuse University Ambulance due September 22nd. Many Honors students have found this experience rewarding–check out the civic engagement blog from April 19, 2013. Online applications are followed by an individual interview and a group interview. The opportunity to join the squad is fairly competitive with an acceptance rate of between 5-8% of applicants. Balance this challenge with the fact that EMT training and ambulance driver training is provided free of charge and the fact that this civic engagement is truly an experience unlike anything you can find throughout the university.

Funniest Art Project EVER

cheap

I’m really not kidding. I don’t commit improper word construction for just anything.

ArtRage Gallery is dedicated to exhibiting issues of social and environmental justice through creative visual media. The gallery is holding an incredibly fun fundraiser on Saturday, October 26—a Cheap Art Auction where the creations of professional and amateur artists go up on the auction block. Cheap art auctions in Syracuse have a tradition of being raucous, ironic, and high-spirited events. Even if you don’t go home with art, you’ll have enjoyed the show.

The gallery needs volunteers on event day (for set up, clean up, auctioneer assistance, and more) as well as folks able to help with PR for the event and artist donation solicitations. And if you care to MAKE some art, that’s great too! Check future posts on the Honors Blog for information about art parties.

If you can’t help with the auction, check out the many other volunteer opportunities available here.

Due to an overwhelming response, the van is full (over full, actually). I’ll post additional times as soon as I can set them up!

And Wishberry went to her forever home over the weekend! She has her own human to walk with now, but says she has many friends more than happy to walk.

If you do, why not volunteer at Helping Hounds in Dewitt, NY. On the bus line and easy to reach.

To become a volunteer at the rescue, you must attend an orientation session, and we have a special session set up for SU Honors students.

We’ll take you in the Honors van, Friday, September 13th. Come to the parking lot between Bowne Hall and Carnegie. We leave at 12:30.

We’ll return to campus at 2:30.

Sign up here, and if you can’t make it at this time, go to the sign up form and tell us when you could attend a session.
